For more than 50 years, the Catalonian musician has rescued musical gems from the obscurity of neglect and given them a new life for all to enjoy. He makes a highly anticipated return to Athens with his latest project, A World of Emotions. A follow up to his landmark Routes of Slavery, this program shines a light on more than 600 years of music of endurance and resistance from Africa, Europe, and the Americas.
Featuring 21 musicians, A World of Emotions is anchored by Savall’s early music ensemble Hespèrion XXI and the vocal group La Capella Reial de Catalunya. The performance also includes Mexico’s Tembembe Ensamble Continuo and musicians from Canada and Guadeloupe. Together they explore an era when music served as an instrument of peace, a refuge for solace, and a beacon of hope.
