Athens Area Humane Society's 4th Annual Kitten Shower

With “kitten season” in full swing, Athens Area Humane Society will host their 4th Annual Kitten Shower at the historic Taylor-Grady House, 634 Prince Ave, Athens, on Sunday, April 28th from 12:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m. The event includes brunch courtesy of Mama's Boy, coffee station, desserts, Mimosas and Bloody Marys. There will be adoptable kittens for patrons to hold, cuddle and apply for adoption. The last 3 kitten showers were hugely popular, raising close to $2000.00 each and a table full of gifts and supplies for the kittens.

Patrons are encouraged to bring a shower gift such as canned kitten food, kitten formula, bottles, toys, etc. Festive wrapping is fun, but not necessary.

This event is open to patrons of all ages (must present valid I.D. for alcoholic beverages). Tickets are $20.00 per person and MUST BE PURCHASED IN ADVANCE. Tickets may be purchased online, in-person at the adoption center at 1781 Mars Hill Road, Watskinsville, or by calling 706-769-9155. There will be a VERY limited number of tickets available day of event. for $25.00.

In early spring, cats go in heat. Since so many people do not spay or neuter their pets, there is an abundance of kittens that are taken in by local animal controls, pet rescues and humane societies. Last spring, the Athens Area Humane Society took in more than 600 kittens and cats, many from neighboring counties who utilize euthanasia as to control animal population. AAHS needs additional funds to provide these kittens and the mother cats with the food, shots, and medicine until they are ready for adoption. All adoptable animals at AAHS are spayed or neutered prior to being placed for adoption.

The Athens Area Humane Society is a donor supported no-kill, non-profit organization dedicated to lowering area euthanasia rates through adoption, spay/neuter, and pet retention programs. AAHS operates a low cost spay/neuter facility that is open to the public Monday through Thursday. The adoption center is open seven days a week.

Donations may also be made online or mailed to AAHS, 1781 Mars Hill Road, Watkinsville, GA 30677. To help control animal population, patrons may indicate their donations be used for the “Spay It Forward” program, which helps AAHS provide free spays and neuters to animals in need.
