This exhibition features the stylized constructed paintings of native plants by Richard Huston. The artist’s subject of native flowers arises from his habit of walking in the woods and searching for native plants. His process begins with a drawing and a translation of the plant with graphite, charcoal, watercolor, and acrylic, which he then traces and transfers to cardstock, building up the image with layers of color and cut-out shapes. The resulting works have a stained-glass quality that recalls the work of craftsman such as William Morris and Louis Comfort Tiffany.
