Corey Smith returns home to Athens and the Georgia Theatre!
Corey Smith feels he owes a debt to his fans—and he’s repaying it with his 10th album, While the Gettin’ Is Good. Released on Sugar Hill Records, it’s the first time the Georgia-born singer-songwriter has handed production duties to someone else: veteran country producer Keith Stegall (Alan Jackson, Zac Brown Band). The result is Smith’s most ambitious, polished record yet—a reward for the fans who have supported him since 2003.
“My fans have always funded my career,” Corey says. “When they buy a ticket or a T-shirt, they’re investing in me. It’s my job to give them the best album I can.”
Written entirely by Smith, the 12 songs explore love, pride, and self-discovery. Highlights include “Bend,” inspired by a relative’s struggles and Smith’s own reflections, and the upbeat “Pride,” a nostalgic tribute to his hometown and high school days. “Don’t Mind” opens the album with a joyful New Orleans groove, while “Taking the Edge Off” captures the loneliness of life on the road.
With Stegall’s guidance, Smith says he could finally focus on performing. “I’ve lived these songs,” he says. “My fans have entrusted me with a lot, and this record is my way of giving back.”
