Athens-Clarke County Unified Government and Athens Downtown Development Authority are proud to present the Downtown Parade of Lights. The theme for this year is “A Super Hero Holiday.” All participants are encouraged to embrace this year’s theme by highlighting heroes: real and/or fictional.
This year’s theme is “A Super Hero Holiday.” Performing units will be judged during the parade itself. Entries will compete for such prizes as “Most Original Float,” “Best Use of Theme,” and “Best Use of Lights.” The best overall float will receive the “Mayor’s Award.”
The parade will have two grand marshals. Local nurses Laura Breckenridge representing Piedmont Athens Regional and Luke Duncan from St. Mary’s Healthcare System were selected by their respective employers to honor the local health care community who have been super heroes during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The parade will begin on the corner of Hancock Avenue and Pulaski Street and include the traditional tree lighting ceremony at City Hall hosted by none other than Santa. Due construction on Clayton Street, the parade will have an adjusted route this year. The updated parade route map is available at www.accgov.com/parade.
The Athens-Clarke County Downtown Parade of Lights is sponsored by the Athens-Clarke County Unified Government and the Athens Downtown Development Authority.
The ACC Downtown Parade of Lights is a “rain or shine” event. If safety becomes an issue for participants and spectators due to severe weather, the parade may be cancelled by the event organizer.
The ACC Downtown Parade of Lights is contingent upon local COVID-19 case numbers and may be modified or canceled to ensure public health and safety.
