On Oct. 6, the third concert in the 2017 ExploreGeorgia.org Songwriter Series will be at The Foundry in Athens, featuring an intimate performance by Mike Dekle, Levi Lowrey and Abby Owens.
Mike Dekle is a State Farm insurance agent…and a hit country songwriter. Dekle has numerous top ten smashes under his belt that have been recorded by artists including Brantley Gilbert, Joe Nichols, Kenny Rogers and Tracy Bird. He has recorded four albums and is a favorite performer among songwriting rounds in Nashville, and among fans and friends in his hometown of Athens.
As the great-great grandson of fiddler Gid Tanner, who led the pioneering string band The Skillet Lickers, Levi Lowrey hails from a serious American music bloodline. Lowrey, who also plays fiddle, has recorded five albums including the double-length Roots and Branches, released last year. Though he co-wrote the #1 Zac Brown Band hit "Colder Weather" and has appeared on numerous ZBB projects, Lowrey's solo work reflects his Americana, folk and bluegrass influences with gorgeous melodies and incredibly honest lyrics.
Like Gram Parsons before her, Abby Owens grew up in Waycross, Georgia, where she bought her first guitar at a pawn shop as a teen. After cutting her teeth playing locally, she moved to Macon and recorded two albums, Fore the Light Comes In, produced by David Barbe and Indiantown, produced by Jason Isbell. Owens is a prolific writer and intense performer who will be back in Athens for the first time in too long.
The ExploreGeorgia.org Songwriter Series takes place in six cities across the state from August through November, promoting the state as a destination for live music and music heritage. Other participating cities include Augusta, LaGrange, Savannah, Rome and Valdosta.
