It’s time once again for the annual Athens Physical Therapy Firefly Trail Ticket to Ride, drawing some 200 bicyclists to celebrate the growing trail linking Athens-Clarke, Oglethorpe and Greene counties with a safe, off-road walking, running and biking trail. The ride features flexible start/finish points in Athens, Winterville and Union Point.
New this year will be the Trailblazer 5K and Fun Run before the ride in Athens, plus there will be food trucks for the morning at Dudley Park in Athens and for midday at Union Point, as well as snacks, water and sports drinks at rest stops in Winterville, Crawford and Maxeys, as well as Athens and Union Point. Riders will be able to ride as much or as little as they wish, from a mile or two on finished portions of the trail in Union Point/Greene County, Maxeys, Winterville and Athens, to the full 82-mile out-and-back round trip on local roads where the trail is still a work in progress.
All riders in the non-competitive Ticket to Ride are treated to beautiful countryside, friendly towns, and fully paved roads and trails (unless they want to do one of the gravel routes). Rest stops with snacks, beverages and restrooms will be available every 8-15 miles, with on-road vehicle support, too. Day-of check-in and registration will open at 7 a.m. in Union Point and at 8 a.m. in Athens and Winterville. The course will remain open until 5 p.m. or the last rider finishes, whichever comes first.
All proceeds benefit the work of Firefly Trail Inc. to promote the completion of a 39-mile multipurpose trail connecting multiple counties and communities in Northeast Georgia from Union Point to Athens. Athens Physical Therapy returns as the Presenting Sponsor for the 2026 Firefly Trail Ticket to Ride.
Pre-registration is now open at https://www.bikereg.com/firefly-trail-ticket-to-ride. Entry is $55 for adults, $35 for students through 11 p.m. March 20. After that, registration increases by $5. Team rates (5-12 members) are available. Day-of registration will open at 8 a.m. in Union Point, 9 a.m. in Athens and Winterville. Riders can also pre-register in person at Georgia Cycle Sport on Baxter Street in Athens. Riders will receive a 4-pack of ceramic coasters while supplies last.
