The Town & Gown Players, celebrating 72 years of continuous community entertainment, invite you to experience Sarah Ruhl’s "For Peter Pan on her 70th Birthday" opening February 7 at the Athens Community Theater. The 2024-2025 Season continues with this reminiscence of a family's view of life, death, and the allure of never growing up. The play opens with a 70-year-old Ann directly addressing the audience about the joy of performing the role of Peter Pan at her hometown children’s theater and how it endures as one of her fondest, most formative memories. Now, 50 years later, Neverland calls again, casting her and her siblings back to this faraway dreamscape where the refusal to grow up confronts the inevitability of growing old.
The cast and crew are veteran Town & Gown Players who, together and separately, have spent decades bringing stories to life at their playhouse which opened in 1969. Bryn Adamson directs the production, assisted by KAT Marie Mitchell and Nathan Altman.
Janet Robertson, Allen Rowell, Adam Shirley, Jeremy Miller and Alan Hickerson grace the stage after several years' absence. They are joined by Joy Ovington making her onstage debut with Town & Gown Players. Experience the magic as they weave together this tale of grief, family, and second youth written by two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist and Tony nominee Sarah Ruhl.
Presented February 7 – 16, 2025. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evening performances begin at 8:00 p.m.; Sunday matinees begin at 2:00 p.m.
