You Can’t Stop the Beat! Hairspray, Broadway’s Tony Award®-winning musical comedy phenomenon that inspired the blockbuster film and live television event, is back on tour! Join 16-year-old Tracy Turnblad in 1960’s Baltimore as she sets out to dance her way onto TV’s most popular show. Can a girl with big dreams (and even bigger hair) change the world?
This all-new touring production will reunite Broadway’s award-winning creative team led by Director Jack O’Brien and Choreographer Jerry Mitchell to bring Hairspray to a new generation of theatre audiences. Don’t miss this “exhilaratingly funny and warm-hearted musical comedy” (The New Yorker).
Coronavirus Update:
Broadway has confirmed that its NYC closure will remain (at least) through the spring of 2021. This announcement will trickle down to The Classic Center's Broadway schedule in Athens as national tours are starting much later than hoped. The Classic Center remains very excited for the current lineup to come to town, but have recently been notified that the season, which was expected to begin in February 2021, will be further delayed with an estimated launch in the fall of 2021.
The Classic Center does plan to host the same series performances, Hairspray, An Officer and a Gentleman, and The Simon & Garfunkel Story, in the 2021-2022 season.
The Classic Center anticipates adding additional wonderful titles during the 2021-2022 year as Broadway further emerges.
