Established in 1962, the Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research (IGHR) is the second-oldest genealogy institute in the U.S. Previously held at Samford University in Alabama, IGHR moved to the University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education & Hotel in 2016 and is held each July. It is an annual week-long event that involves many of the best genealogists and researchers in the country. 2022 is IGHR's 60th Anniversary and will be held Sunday, 24 July - Friday, 29 July 2022. Note: The Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research educates genealogists of all levels from the beginning hobbyist to the most-advanced professional. 2021 attendees were from 46 states, 3 provinces in Canada, and The Netherlands. Typically held in-person in Athens, due to the current pandemic, a decision will be made in November 2021 as to whether the 2022 session will be held in-person or virtually.
