Join the Russell Library for a lunch and learn event. Sean Vanatta, a "triple dawg" and visiting assistant professor of history in the Gallatin School of Individualized Study at New York University, will present on the Volcker Shock and the end of financial stability.
The Volcker Shock, a policy experiment undertaken in October 1979, was the most important financial event between the Great Depression and the Great Recession. Vanatta will discuss how this change in the way the Federal Reserve managed the nation’s money supply dramatically transformed the U.S. financial system. He will explore the unheralded consequences including the acceleration toward deregulation and financial concentration, the inauguration of our present era of Bailout Capitalism, and the 2008 financial crisis.
