Marlon Funaki is a Southern California–based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist whose music blends psychedelic indie rock with R&B, hip-hop, jazz, shoegaze, and Latin influences. Raised 40 miles east of Los Angeles in a multicultural, music-loving household, Funaki developed an early obsession with sound, shaped by artists like Red Hot Chili Peppers, Led Zeppelin, My Bloody Valentine, and Pink Floyd.
Originally trained as a drummer in symphonic and marching bands, he eventually left formal structures behind to pursue his own creative path. After selling his Xbox to buy his first electric guitar in high school, Funaki taught himself bass, keys, drums, and music production, becoming a fully self-sufficient artist.
Following high school, he busked throughout downtown Redlands before committing to music full time. A job at Guitar Center allowed him to build a home studio, where he recorded his debut EP The Universal Language (2020) and later his first full-length album Monterey Village (2022). His atmospheric, guitar-forward sound quickly gained a global following.
Known for his immersive live shows, Funaki toured extensively, growing from house shows to sold-out clubs nationwide. Now signed to Warner Records, he continues to explore genre-defying soundscapes. His Warner debut single, “Let You In,” arrives January 9, marking the next chapter in his evolving musical universe.
