This program explores common snake species found in Athens and the surrounding Piedmont region, featuring live examples of both venomous and non-venomous snakes. Attendees will learn about their ecological importance and how to coexist with them in their own landscapes.
The presentation is led by Berkeley Boone, a herpetologist and environmental educator with over 30 years of experience. Boone has worked with reptiles and amphibians since childhood and has held roles at the Savannah River Ecology Lab, Sandy Creek Nature Center, and Bear Hollow Zoo. He currently works for the Department of Natural Resources and incorporates live animals into his educational programs.
