Organized by Aperture Gallery, this exhibition of work by the contemporary African American artist focuses on photography as an important element in her practice. Although Thomas is better known for her jewel-encrusted paintings, she has photographed herself, her mother and her friends repeatedly throughout her career, and photography has served as a point of departure for her collage images. Feminine, complex and bold, these images draw on art history and personal experience to create something new.
