Folk instrument orchestras have been popular in Russia for more than 150 years. Originally made up of the plucked instruments of the dorma and balalaika families, in recent decades the addition of accordions and non-folk instruments such as the flute and oboe has resulted in ensembles with a uniquely engaging sound. Under the leadership of conductor Boris Voron, the orchestra features top-notch professional soloists and outstanding students from Moscow’s Gnessin Russian Academy of Music, one of Russia’s most prestigious conservatories. This engaging pops concert features an array of popular selections as well as traditional Russian folk music.

**Due to travel restrictions, the Russian Folk Instrument Orchestra was unable to travel to the U.S for their October performances. The orchestra's Oct. 1 Hodgson Hall concert was rescheduled for March 4, 2018, at 3 p.m. Tickets purchased for Oct. 1 will be valid for the March 4 performance.
