Spotlight on the Arts Opening Celebration

The Opening Celebration for the 2016 Spotlight on the Arts festival will be an hour-long kaleidoscope of student performances and presentations by the arts programs at UGA, from dance to music, theater, creative writing and art. This brilliant, non-stop collage of the arts provides a window into the vast scope of the creative work on our campus, at the core of UGA’s mission. The event is free and open to the public. Spotlight on the Arts
Presented by the UGA Arts Council, the fifth annual Spotlight on the Arts festival features dozens of events in the visual, literary and performing arts. The 12-day festival, scheduled for Nov. 2-13, includes museum tours, discussions with writers, concerts and dance and dramatic performances. The festival kicks off with an Opening Celebration, set for 7:30-8:30 p.m. Nov. 2 at the Performing Arts Center, featuring a kaleidoscope of student performances showcasing the arts at UGA.

Highlights include a University Theatre production of “Jane Eyre,” a Shakespeare symposium, a guest lecture and DJ set from internationally renowned music producer Jacknife Lee and guest performances by the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, folk music group The Dardanelles and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. The Student Spotlight Main Event will be held Nov. 3 at Tate Plaza, followed by the third annual 4 minutes, 33 seconds competition highlighting arts research and scholarship among graduate students on Nov. 4.
