Steve Forbert, long celebrated as a distinctive American songwriter, reaffirms his stature with Daylight Savings Time, an album rich in his “omnivorously observant” storytelling and melodic charm. Often mentioned alongside greats like Zevon, Parsons, Dylan, Petty, and Springsteen, Forbert speaks with a voice uniquely his own, revealing depth and magic in everyday moments.
Approaching his 70th birthday, Forbert uses the album to reflect on life’s “extra hour of daylight,” captured in the single “Sound Existence.” The record marks his third collaboration with producer Steve Greenwell and features seasoned musicians including Aaron Comess, Rob Clores, Byron House, and Gurf Morlix.
Since arriving in New York from Mississippi in 1976, Forbert has carved a singular path—from folk clubs and CBGB to major-label success with Alive on Arrival and Jackrabbit Slim, which produced the hit “Romeo’s Tune.” With 20 studio albums, numerous live recordings, and a Grammy-nominated tribute to Jimmie Rodgers, Forbert remains, in the words of promoters and critics, a resonant and authentic musical force.
