- Location: ACC Landfill Outdoor Classroom
- Time: 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM

The ACC Vulture Festival is a celebration of "nature's clean-up crew," the vulture! Vultures are key to a healthy ecosystem. Just like the Solid Waste Department, they help keep the environment safe and clean by picking up the "leftovers." Vultures are often under-appreciated or even cast as the villain or outcast in cartoons and stories.
Every year, the Vulture Festival shines a spotlight on this amazing creature, which includes a wide variety of species from all over the world. You'll also be able to get a fresh appreciation of how landfills serve to do more than just bury your trash - waste reduction is a goal, including composting organics such as food scraps, leaf & limb, and biosolids, as well as recycling materials and reclaiming landfill gasses to convert into electricity.
All ages welcomed.
Activities include:
- Guided bird walk with Oconee Rivers Audubon Society
- Vulture costume contest
- Hands-on, interactive activities and informational tables
- Canvas painting and themed crafts
- Guided tours of ACC composting and Landfill operations
- Live birds/presentation by Auburn University Raptor Center Program
- Dance performance by the Vulture Sisters
