The 2020 UGA football season looks a little (well, a lot) different for the Bulldog Nation.
Check out these FAQs for all the changes and details you need to know when heading to Athens for a home football weekend this season.
Q: How is Sanford Stadium seating changing for UGA football games in 2020?
A: Sanford Stadium will seat approximately 21,000 for the 2020 football season. Seating will be in blocks of 4. Seat assignments on digital tickets and stadium chairbacks will be used to designate where patrons can sit.
Q: Can I still park on campus before the UGA Football Game?
A: Fans with tickets to the game can still park on campus the day of the game. Parking lots on campus will open three hours before kick-off for each home game. Please note that parking lot attendants will require all occupants in the vehicle to have tickets for the game.
Q: Which parking lots and parking decks will be open for football fans on Gameday? What changes have been made?
- Cash will not be accepted at parking lots.
- Fan shuttles will not be provided for the 2020 season in order to maintain social distancing.
- Intramural Field parking lots will not be open for the 2020 season.
- Parking decks on Carlton Street and East Campus Road will be open and available for fans to park in for a $20 fee. Visitors may pay through the ParkMobile app, which is available for download on iPhone and Android devices.
- The South Campus Parking Deck will be available for a fee of $30 on gameday.
- Gameday parking lots that have traditionally been overseen by the UGA Athletic Association will continue to be controlled by the association.
Q: Is Tailgating Allowed at UGA Football Games This Season?
A: Tailgating parties will not be permitted on the UGA campus this season. However, UGA will allow fans to gather near their vehicle with family members or those they rode with and will sit with inside Sanford Stadium. Please maintain 6-feet social distancing and wear masks when around others who are not part of your group.
Q: Are there any restaurants open on campus prior to the game?
A: Chick-fil-A, the Market at Tate, Niche Pizza Co., and Starbucks will open three hours prior to kick-off on game day. These locations will close at kick-off. Take-out options will be available. No inside dining will be permitted. The Grill Tent and Last Chance Drink Tents at Tate will be closed. Dining halls will be open to meal plan participants only.
Q: Will the UGA Bookstore be open on Gameday?
A: Yes, the University Bookstore will be open, but with limited hours. The exact hours of operation will vary each week depending on the game’s kickoff time. Please visit the Bookstore’s website each week for times.
Q: Will UGA have the Dawg Walk before football games this season?
A: Unfortunately, no, UGA will not have Dawg Walk for the 2020 season. The team’s arrival to Sanford Stadium will not be promoted in order to minimize mass gatherings.
Q: Where can I purchase UGA Merchandise on Gameday?
A: In addition to the University Bookstore, merchandise will be available for purchase inside the stadium during the game and at the tent on the bridge.
Q: Can I purchase food and drinks inside Sanford Stadium?
A: All concessions stands will be open, with enhanced cleaning procedures. Face coverings are required for all customers and concessions staff. Staff will also wear gloves. Menu offerings will be limited to the most high-demand, grab-n-go items. Pre-packaged condiments will be available upon request; condiment stations on the concourses will be eliminated. All transactions will be cashless and contactless. Credit cards accepted are Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover.
Q: May I still bring in my own water?
A: Yes, each customer may bring in one, unopened bottle of water. Water fountains will be disabled in the stadium.
Q: How do I pay for parking, food, and UGA merchandise?
A: Cash will not be accepted at parking lots or at Sanford Stadium. All transactions will be contactless using credit or debit cards only. Cash customers can purchase a gift card for use within Sanford Stadium at all souvenir stand locations. The merchandise stands inside the stadium will also have VISA gift cards available for purchase ($25 value). These cards can be used at concession stands throughout the venue since cash will not be accepted at concession stands and balance on card can be used at any business in the community accepting VISA gift card.
Q: Will fans have to wear masks inside Sanford Stadium?
A: Yes, all fans and staff will be required to wear a face covering that covers the nose and mouth completely for entrance into Sanford Stadium. Fans are also asked to maintain social distancing from anyone who did not ride together with them both inside and outside of Sanford Stadium. Patrons who are unable able to wear a face mask due to medical reasons must bring a note from a medical professional. These individuals and their guests will need to enter Sanford Stadium through Gate 2 or Gate 6 for a medical exemption. A face shield may be provided to the patron.
Q: Can I still enter at my regular Gate? What stadium entrance procedures are changing?
A: All entry gates will be open. To maintain distancing, every other security lane will be open at each gate. ADA patrons should use Gates 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 9, or 10.
All attendees may bring in one, unopened bottle of water. The SEC Clear Bag Policy remains in effect. See UGA's Digital Tickets page for more information on receiving and using digital tickets for this season.
Q: Are there any changes to restrooms in Sanford Stadium?
A: All restrooms will remain open and will be disinfected with an electrostatic sprayer before each game. UGA will have attendants stationed at each restroom to constantly disinfect all touch points. Decals will be placed on the ground to promote social distancing.
Q: What other enhanced cleaning will be done in Sanford Stadium for games?
A: Electrostatic sprayers will be used the morning of each game to disinfect all stadium restrooms, locker rooms, first aid rooms, and other common areas. Handrails and elevators will also be disinfected. Hand sanitizers will be available throughout the stadium. Red seats will be wiped down by Stadium ambassadors with disinfectant and water. Disinfectant wipes will be available in the Mamava pods.
Q: What if I have questions or need help on gameday?
A: The SilverDawgs volunteers, in their distinctive hats and badges, will be available again this season to help welcome guests to campus and the Athens area. The SilverDawgs will be inside and outside the gates of Sanford Stadium to help people with directions and provide gameday information.
Q: What are the rules and regulations in the city of Athens, when I am not on the UGA Campus?
A: Face coverings or masks are required by a local emergency declaration in entities or public places. Face covers should cover the mouth and nose at all times where physical distancing measures may be difficult to maintain.
Q: Can I host a tailgate event in Athens, not on UGA's Campus?
A: Be aware of the state regulation that gatherings of more than 50 people are not allowed unless those in attendance can stand or be seated more than six feet apart.
Q: Are bars currently open in Athens?
A: Yes, bars are open in Athens. Based on state regulations, capacity is limited to 50 people or 35% of their fire capacity occupancy inside, whichever is greater. Seating arrangements should be designed to ensure at least six (6) feet of separation from seating to seating or utilizing physical barriers to separate groups of seating within six (6) feet.
