Revival Yarns is the brainchild of two friends who met in a neighborhood knitting group and saw the need for an in-town yarn shop. Despite their very different backgrounds, Cara and Lindsay, both craved a creative fiber space in Athens. One that focused on community and the way crafting brings people together. Revival Yarns is different from your average retail business because of its focus on community. Yes, they stock lovely yarns and tools for knitting and crochet, but it’s the community part that keeps them going. Revival Yarns provides time and space for a diverse group of customers to gather, craft, form friendships, and be inspired by each other.
Cara Cannon was taught to knit by her aunt at the age of 10. Each Thanksgiving her aunt would help her complete a new project. This instilled a love of the craft in Cara, a love she has passed down to her eldest daughter who was 8 years old when Revival Yarns opened. Cara is a Georgia native (with a brief hiatus in Texas). In addition to previously teaching kindergarten, Cara also owned her own cake business.
Lindsay Woodson taught herself to knit in 2003 as a freshman in college. With a Masters degree in Marine Science, Lindsay worked for several years conducting research along the California coast. A California native, Lindsay moved to Athens in 2012. Missing her knitting/crochet community out west, she started a knitting group in her new neighborhood. It was this inspiring group that eventually led to the creation of Revival Yarns.
Cara and Lindsay say, "We are fortunate that despite the day-to-day difficulties and worries of running a small business (especially this year), we find a lot of joy in what we do. There is joy in teaching someone a new skill and watching them grow in their craft over the years. There is joy in finding and stocking new yarns from up-and-coming dyers or local farms. And there is great, great joy in the friendships we have both formed and facilitated over the years."
