(ATHENS, GA) Lyndon House Arts Center, a facility of the Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department, will host an opening reception of the 43rd Juried Exhibition on Thursday, March 22 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Ms. Wassan Al-Khudhairi, Chief Curator at the Contemporary Art Museum in St. Louis, was chosen as Guest Juror to select this year’s show.
Ms. Al-Khudhairi visited Athens and the Lyndon House in January to review Athens area artist submissions. In those two days, 373 artists arrived with original works for consideration. Wassan Al-Khudhairi investigated the multitude of works in the galleries. She chose works that were challenging, current, playful and with dedication to the creative practice. The result is a beautiful group exhibit of 126 pieces that include multi-media works, large sculpture, works on paper, photography, painting, and fiber.
Funds from entry day fees and donations from a number of Guilds provided Wassan Al-Khudhairi the ability to grant eleven Merit Awards in a variety of fields. These awards will be announced at the opening reception and included in the 43rd Juried Exhibition catalog.
The Juried Show will be on display March 22-May 5 during regular gallery hours of Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon to 9:00 p.m., and Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The exhibition is free and open to the public, however children must be accompanied by an adult.
In celebration of the 43rd Juried Exhibition, every Thursday in the month of April, the Lyndon House will host gallery talks with Juried Exhibition artists. These will take place from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. on April 6, 12, 19, and 26. The gallery talks are free and open to the public.
