Five & Ten
This local fine dining staple is the flagship restaurant for James Beard Award-winning chef and cookbook author Hugh Acheson, known for his presence on ‘Top Chef” and “Top Chef Presence.” Five & Ten put Athens on the culinary map in 2002 and paved the way for acclaimed restaurants since, from the innovative sides at Pulaski Heights BBQ and home.made’s creative twists on Southern staples like grits ice cream and pimento cheese straws.
Condor Chocolates
Family and locally owned, this bean-to-bar chocolate store is a fairytale for chocoholics and those with a sweet tooth. From bars and truffles to sipping chocolate and chocolate coffee drinks, Condor Chocolates has two locations in the charming Five Points neighborhood and the heart of Downtown Athens.
Athens Beer Trail Tour
From Thor’s beer of choice at Creature Comforts to a unique wild yeast program at Southern Brewing Company, the Athens Beer Trail travels through six local craft breweries to sample all the hops of Athens. New this year, the Athens Beer Trail Trolley runs every Thursday and Friday with stops at each brewery.
Oak House Distillery
The first legal distillery in Athens since the 1860s is slated to open in 2023, complete with a tasting room, cocktail lounge and ample outdoor space. Once open, visitors to Oak House Distillery can expect to sip on delectable spirits such as floral-style gin with lemon grass, kaffir lime and cardamom; a Jamaican-style rum using a yeast native to Jamaica; organic vodka; and more.
