Communications Specialist

The Communications Specialist promotes the city of Athens and increases the economic impact of tourism by attracting visitors through public relations and communications to consumers and media.  Responsible for owned content creation and marketing via website, email, and social media. Authors press releases and oversees media relations. Assists with production of CVB publications.  
This position reports to the Director of Marketing & Communications and supervises the communications intern.

Sales and Services Manager

The Sales and Services Manager increases the economic impact of the group market, whether tour or meetings/conventions, on the Athens community. Primary emphasis will be placed on attracting overnight visitors. This position will be directly responsible for all elements of social sales and conventions services. An emphasis will be placed on facilitating the CVB’s online housing program for groups. Position reports to Director of Sales

PR-Communications Intern



PR-Communications Internship 


Hours: 10-12 Hours/week (up to 20 for Summer Semester)
One-Two Positions filled each semester

  • contributing to the VisitAthensGA.com blog,
  • drafting press releases to promote Athens as a travel destination,
  • making pitches to targeted media,
  • maintaining content on travel websites,
  • social media,
  • email marketing,
  • assisting with media requests and press visits, and
  • other promotional and marketing activities.

All majors considered, Sophomore-Senior year.
Detail-oriented, professionalism, and reliability a must. Exceptional writing skills. Particular interest in social media; New Media certificate program a plus.

Film-Video Production Intern

Athens Convention & Visitors Bureau is seeking storytellers to capture the unique flavors of Athens on film. Great opportunity to be in on the start of a new video series to promote Athens as a travel destination. Finished video product would be of a variety of lengths and uses, including blog, social, and our YouTube Channel, in addition to instream and connected TV advertising. You'd help shape the content calendar of the series, from "sweeping vistas" to "small, personal profiles."

All majors and years considered

Sports Marketing Intern

One position available each semester
Salary:  Unpaid
Hours: 10-12 per week

Job Description: The Athens CVB Sports Marketing intern will assist in new initiatives to promote Athens as a destination for amateur sporting events. Under the direction of the CVB Sports Sales Manager, the intern will compile a database of sports venues within Athens-Clarke County and gather specifications on facilities and amenities provided at each venue. The database will provide content for the Sports section of the VisitAthensGA.com website and be used for sales and marketing activities. Additional responsibilities will include assisting the Sports Sales Manager with prospecting for new sports business and working on the development of a new Sports Council.

Qualifications: Detail-oriented, professionalism, and reliability a must. Comfortable with technology. Able to work independently.
