(ATHENS,GA) - A ribbon cutting ceremony took place Thursday, December 6, 2018 to celebrate reactivating General Time Athens after being vacant for over 17 years.  General Time recently turned over the keys to their anchor tenant, Terrapin Beer Company.  Terrapin took occupancy of the newly renovated warehouse space across the street from their brewery on Newton Bridge Rd in Athens, GA.  The warehouse reactivation is Phase I of the adaptive re-use project, where Terrapin leased 68,000 of the refurbished 110,000 square feet.

Phase II of the approximately 35-acre project includes the adaptive reuse of the remaining 200,000 square feet of the clock manufacturing facility built in 1954. General Time will include retail, recreation, office and showroom space, in addition to multifamily and a music venue. Leasing efforts have begun through Atlanta based Pollock Commercial.  Construction will commence mid-2019.

The name of the development comes from the parent company of Westclox, General Time Corporation “The development really named itself. We like the historical reference and how it illustrates the gathering space we are creating. A place where people will come to spend quality time together across a wide variety of activities”, said Michael Dinerman, of Knotting Developments, one of the project’s developers, who has partnered with The Ardent Companies for this project. “ The goal is to a create community asset where Athenians & regional tourists will gather at a crossroads of music, culture and industry,” added Dinerman

“As our brewery has been located on Newton Bridge Road for over 11 years, we at Terrapin are extremely excited to have our new warehouse facility be a part of General Time, a game-changing real estate project for greater Athens. This historic area has needed someone with a strong community vision to help with rehabilitation and we are proud to be continually involved with this progressive movement in Athens.”

Dustin Watts, President, Terrapin Beer Company

"I'm excited for the continued success of a locally-based business, and even more so for activating a key part of the core of Athens. This is an area in which we will see public infrastructure investment and enormous private sector growth in the years ahead."

Kelly Girtz, Athens-Clarke County, District 9 County Commissioner & Incoming Mayor

"General Time is an example of how adaptive reuse projects can celebrate Athens' unique character and elevate the quality of life in Athens. This project serves contemporary needs in our community and represents an opportunity for Athens' industry and artists to showcase their work and grow."
