Athens, GA – The Columbus River Dragons and The Classic Center are excited to bring minor league hockey to Athens. The Federal Prospects Hockey League (FPHL) will play two neutral site games at the Akins Ford Arena at The Classic Center in Athens, GA.

The Columbus River Dragons will take on the Danville Dashers on December 29 and the Port Huron Prowlers on January 12. Both will have a 4:05 p.m. puck drop.

Director of Arena and Ancillary Services Danny Bryant says, “We are excited to welcome the Columbus River Dragons and the Federal Prospect Hockey League to Athens and the Akins Ford Arena. We believe this will be an exciting opportunity for our current UGA Ice Dawgs fans to experience a professional hockey game in addition to bringing new fans to Athens.”

River Dragons President and General Manager Scott Brand adds, “We appreciate the partnership with The Classic Center in Athens, and these two games will allow us to showcase our league and provide hockey fans in Eastern Georgia a chance to see professional hockey. Any chance we have to expose our brand of hockey to a new market is exciting, and we know that given the opportunity, Athens area hockey fans will enjoy our games.

Tickets will go on sale September 6. Tickets will be between $12-$15 for single game tickets with bundle pricing starting as low as $20. Patrons are also invited to stay for post-game activities involving River Dragons players.
