BIRTH OF A NEW TRADITION:
SOUTHERN BREWING COMPANY ARRIVES AT CLASSIC CITY BREW FEST

Masters Champion Ian Woosnam named honorary brewmaster, will wear SBC logo cap in 2015 Masters

ATHENS, GA. (April 9, 2015)- On a day soaked in Southern tradition, the founders of a new Athens-based craft brewery are looking to make some history of their own when the Southern Brewing Company (SBC) officially debuts at the Classic City Brew Fest on Masters Sunday, April 12, from 2:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Graduate Athens Hotel.

To commemorate what co-founders Brian Roth and Rick Goddard hope will become a new Southern tradition - SBC beer - they tapped their friend, 1991 Masters Champion Ian Woosnam, to represent the brewery in the tradition unlike any other. He was made an honorary SBC brewmaster and will wear an SBC logo cap while playing in the 2015 Masters this week.

"As a Masters Champion, Georgia holds a special place in my heart. And the Southern Brewing Company really pours the spirit of Georgia into everything they do," said Woosnam. "When the guys asked me to wear the SBC logo, I thought it was a natural fit. Plus, I can't wait to try their English bitters."

Years in the making, the timing could not be better to announce SBC's arrival on the Georgia craft beer scene, says Goddard.

"Golf and beer go together like Augusta and pimento cheese sandwiches," said Goddard. "What better day to introduce the Southern Brewing Company to Georgia and the nation than on one of the best beer-drinking days of the year - Masters Sunday - with a man who has worn the green jacket?"

Roth's goal is to make SBC as much a part of the fabric of Georgia as Amen Corner.

"One of the things I'm most proud of is that the foundation the Southern Brewing Company is establishing here in Georgia is built to last," said Roth. "We brew our beer with time-honored traditional methods and the best quality ingredients. Then we're also going innovate through partnerships with other craft brewers to bring in some new tastes and styles that the region hasn't seen before."

At the Classic City Brew Fest, SBC will offer six brews for tasting: Kölsch, IPA, milk stout, two wild yeast beers caught from azaleas and Cherokee rose flowers, and Woosnam's favorite, the ESB or English bitters. Tickets are available at www.classiccitybrew.com.

The Southern Brewing Company is located in a new purpose-built 11,000 square-foot facility at 231 Collins Industrial Blvd. about two miles from downtown Athens.

"We're in the process of putting the finishing touches on now and are gearing up to host live music and other special events," said Goddard. "We've got the space and the character to be a destination brewery unlike anything in the area."
