It's date night in Athens. Your favorite person is counting on you to come up with an activity for a night they'll never forget. Where do you take them? Luckily for you, we've got you covered with 10 fun dates you probably haven't tried yet!
1. Active Climbing
Check out Active Climbing for an adventure date your babe is sure to remember. If you've never climbed there before use their first time belay special to get a day pass, gear and a quick belay class all for just $25. The space is made up of two rooms, a top rope/kids room and a bouldering room, and it's a great fit for all ages and skill levels!
2. Escape the Space
If you've ever done an escape room, you know that it's all about teamwork, and that's why you and your date need to head over to Escape the Space. The facility has a modular design, which means that you don't have to worry about having only two people in your room: the work is scalable so that you can solve the puzzles with anywhere from 2 to 12 folks in most rooms. They have four rooms at a time, which means you can go back again and again for all new puzzles.
3. Rook & Pawn
If you're looking for a relatively chill date that is still a ton of fun, head over to The Rook & Pawn board game cafe. Grab a themed drink and pick from their collection of over 800 games. Settle in for as long as you like (the $5 game fee is good all day) and enjoy the cozy atmosphere, great snacks and drinks, and all of the games your heart desires!
4. Try Clay at Good Dirt
Looking for a fun, hands-on date that is sure to impress your boo? Look no farther than a Try Clay class at Good Dirt Clay Studio. Get your hands dirty and make something cool in the process in this one time class where you will learn how to make a piece on the wheel, paint it and send it off to the kiln for you to pick up later. The two hour class is 7-9pm Fridays, and it costs $35 a person.
5. ARTini's Art Lounge
If you've never done a sip 'n paint class, now is your chance! ARTini's has a ton of fun projects on their calendar so you can pick a painting that you'd really like to have. The instructor will take you through the process step by step, so you're sure to end up with something you love. And don't forget to grab a drink for your class! ARTini's has a selection of red, white and sparkling wine, as well as sodas, Vitamin Water, coconut water, and juices.
6. Wonderbar
Wonderbar is a fun and unique spot to eat, drink, and game. Their classic video games like Nintendo 64 Mario Cart will have you and your date racing through the night, plus board games and classic arcade games. Pair their big screen video games with themed cocktails and shots, and you're sure to be on your way to a good evening!
7. LumberJaxe
Bring out your competitive side and get some energy out at LumberJaxe ax throwing bar! One hour of throwing, with the assistance of a personal ax-throwing coach, is $25/person.
8. Georgia Museum of Art
Georgia Museum of Art is the perfect place to take your sweetie for a slower, more relaxed date wandering around the galleries. The museum houses a permanent collection of more than 18,000 works of art as well as 20 to 25 temporary exhibitions a year, plus the Jane and Harry Willson Sculpture Garden hosts rotating exhibitions of work by women sculptors. Galleries include American painting, works on paper, southern decorative arts and self-taught art, as well as works by African American artists and a Samuel H. Kress Study Collection of Renaissance and Baroque art. The official state museum of art, the museum offers free inspiration for everyone, including you and your date.
9.Sandy Creek Park
Take a picnic, relax on Athens' only beach or rent a kayak, and have a water adventure right out on Lake Chapman. Sandy Creek Park has so much to do, and entry is only $2 a person. Kayaks and canoes can be rented on weekends between Memorial Day and Labor Day, and each boat is $8 per hour. Watch out for special events, like drive in movies, during the summer!
10. Bear Hollow Zoo
For a more outdoorsy date, take your sweetheart to Bear Hollow Zoo. While this is a is a popular place for families, it often gets looked over for the fun, interactive (and free!) date that it can be. Come see Georgia’s native wildlife on a small wildlife trail that is home to black bears, bobcats, white-tailed deer, owls, and many other species of wild, free-living animals. Take a walk down Birchmore Trail, a 1.25 mile trail that makes its way through an urban forest and features the Great Wall of Happy Hollow, or walk the Lake Walkway Loop, a paved walking path that runs just over a quarter of a mile around Memorial Park Lake.
