The weekend is finally here! After a long work week, come spend a weekend relaxing in the Classic City. From fun, educational opportunities, to entertaining performances that can be enjoyed by the entire family, we know you will have an amazing weekend in Athens, GA! Here are a few ideas to mark down on your calendar.

The Russell Building for Special Collection Libraries is offering the public the chance to explore UGA's Special Collections Libraries on Friday, June 8 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Collections include the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library, the Richard B. Russell Library for Political Research and Studies, and the Walter J. Brown media Archives and Peabody Awards Collection. The morning will be spent taking an introductory tour of these three collection libraries, followed by lunch, an in-depth hour-long program for each of the collections and then a special reception and free exploration of the collections. Admission is $25 a person. Come enjoy a day dedicated to learning about Georgia's rich history!


Sandy Creek Park invites all families to come spend quality time together paddling around Lake Chapman on Saturday, June 9 from 9-11 a.m. Everyone ages 4 and older are welcome. Admission is $8 for Athens-Clarke County residents without a boat, $5 for Athens-Clarke County residents with a boat, $12 for non-residents without a boat, and $8 for non-residents with a boat. Registration and payment are required in advance by calling 706-613-3631.


Spend a lovely Sunday afternoon with close family and friends at the State Botanical Garden, strolling the gardens, enjoying lunch provided by Dondero's kitchen, and listening to music provided by the Classic V Brass Quintet! The concert will be held in the conservatory from 3-4 p.m., and admission is free. Come here the group perform marches, dance music, medleys, and traditional Baroque music!
