We've reached the middle of October which means Halloween is fast approaching! This Saturday, you and your family are invited to spend the afternoon at the Sandy Creek Nature Center learning about the slippery, the slimy, and misunderstood creatures. The annual Scary, Oozy, Slimy Day will feature games, crafts, interactive activities, and the opportunity to see and touch live animals such as snakes and hissing cockroaches. Come on out from 4 - 7 p.m., bring the kids all dressed up in their Halloween costume. It’s almost time to harvest the hops again, and in the true fashion of celebrating all things "hoppy," Terrapin Beer Company is hosting their annual Hop Harvest Festival Saturday, October 19th from 4:30 - 8:30 p.m. For entertainment, Terrapin will be breaking out a number of specialty casks and Hop Backs to tempt your taste buds. This Sunday marks the 4th year of the AthFest Half Marathon. On October 20th, thousands of runners will wind their way through the historic downtown Athens. This race is unique not just because it takes place in the Classic City, but there is also live music featured at every mile throughout the race. Whether you're running or not, you can kick off race weekend with the AthHalf Fitness Expo on Saturday October 19th at The Classic Center. There will be bargains on running and fitness merchandise, free samples of nutrition and demonstration of fitness products, and all sorts of health and fitness exhibits related to running, walking, and overall wellness. Even if you opt not to run the 13.1 miles, you can still come out and cheer on all the athletes. The race begins at 7:30 a.m. on Clayton Street.
