On Friday night, the UGA Basketball program entered into a new era with the advent of “BasketBash.” In effort with University Union, UGA Athletics sponsored a night of fun for students and fans to get excited for the upcoming Basketball season!

Coffee tumblers, UGA Basketball t-shirts and Chick-fil-a sandwiches were given to everyone in attendance and dozens of students had the chance to win iPads, gift cards and other prizes. Ryan Cameron, the Atlanta Hawks announcer and popular V103 deejay, hosted the evening. After a hilarious game of Simon Says comprised of 50 students from the crowd, the Men and Women’s basketball team entered Stegeman to cheering fans. You could definitely feel the excitement in the room. Later in the night, the teams scrimmaged for the crowd. The men’s team will return many key starters and debut a highly talented recruiting class. Even in a casual scrimmage, the level of talent was unmistakable.

BasketBash was a perfect opportunity to ignite the fan base for the upcoming basketball season. If you didn’t attend a game last season, you probably haven’t seen the beautiful renovations to Stegeman Coliseum. The football season ends in a few months, but basketball season continues through the spring! They’re a great opportunity to visit Athens, especially during big SEC matches like South Carolina and Kentucky!

Grab a bite to eat before or after the game at Cali-n-Tito’sor head to Five Points for fine cuisine at Hugh Acheson’s Five & Ten. Any true Georgia sports fan must visit the Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall, filled with UGA athletics treasures. We know that once you get here, you won’t want to leave so reserve your spot at one of Athens’ spectacular hotels.

The men’s basketball season kicks-off November 2ndagainst Young Harris College and the women’s team begins play November 11th versus Rutgers.
