Pre-parade gathering with live music from Athens’ favorites: Elf Power, Calico Vision and Chief Rocka. This is FREE and open to patrons of all ages. For the event, Creature Comforts will be releasing an exclusive, limited holiday-themed "Dracula's Blood" Transylvania Weiss Beer brewed with passion fruit, cocoa nibs, hibiscus and lactose.
The vision of The Wild Rumpus is to provide an organized avenue for the massive array of Athens creativity which manifests with such awesome power every Halloween. In the style and spirit of events like Burning Man or The Oregon Country Fair, The Wild Rumpus can serve as a safe and highly visible outlet for these creativities.
This 2-day celebration includes free and ticketed special events, live music, street performers, and a big parade through the streets of downtown Athens enhanced by Athens area bands along the parade route. The parade is free and family-friendly. Patrons are encouraged to dress in costume. Anyone dressed in costume may walk in the parade. All events will take place rain or shine.
Athens is known as a "Never Never Land" to an active population of wildly creative, experimental artists and musicians and an enormous student population of the University of Georgia. Through tourism and participation, The Wild Rumpus also serves as an economic generator for Athens downtown businesses. Additionally it channels profits from event fundraising to local non-profit organizations that work for the betterment of the community. Proceeds from this year’s Wild Rumpus will benefit Athens Area Homeless Shelter.
