Festivals every weekend
Once April comes around, beer lovers from across the nation make their way to Athens, Georgia, to experience Athens Beer Week, which includes not only a famed beer festival, but a host of exciting events, including dinners, brewery tours and much more, taking place over seven fun-filled days. At the week’s end, the renowned Classic City Brew Fest brings dozens of craft breweries from around the world, including the most notable breweries from Athens itself, together under one roof, where visitors can sip a variety of samples, enjoy live musical talent and savor delicious fare from a local food truck.
But that’s not all we offer – there are plenty of other festivals during the spring that cater to virtually any passion, from plants to comics to film and beyond. For example, the Fluke Mini-Comics Festival, held yearly in Athens since 2002, offers a venue for free-flowing discourse between the region’s comic artists, underground publishers, zine creators and their fans. Unlike larger gatherings, Fluke primarily focuses on creators' work and the exchange of relevant ideas.
Later in the spring, the UGA International Street Festival unites on-campus international student organizations with various community groups on an exciting day packed full of cultural displays, international music and more. Activities abound for all ages, and visitors have the opportunity to score giveaways and door prizes provided by local sponsors.
Near the end of April, tens of thousands of visitors flock to Athens to witness the two-wheeled madness of Athens Twilight. This storied, weekend-long event attracts dedicated cyclists from around the globe to compete in the men’s and women’s pro-am criteriums, and has recently been called the most insane criterium in the world. The event also features several distance running challenges catering to both adults and children, while a food court and expo areas offer spectators and participants a taste of several regional vendors.
