Athens is the perfect place to get a head start on the 4th of July festivities, and not just because of the spectacular Star Spangled Classic Fireworks Celebration. The whole family will be able to enjoy live music, great food and drink options from local vendors. The fireworks will be launched from the Classic Center parking deck, but we’ve got you covered with all the best spots in Athens to get that perfect view.

Clayton Street

blind pig tavern

The festival area itself is on Clayton Street between Thomas Street and College Avenue. Enjoy dinner at Blind Pig Tavern or South Kitchen + Bar to be close to the recommended viewing zone. Boar’s Head Lounge and Flanagan’s are also convenient for celebratory drinks. There is also a kid area nearby led by LadyBug events along with local dessert vendors such as Lil Ice Cream Dude, Hokulia Shave Ice, Kona Ice, and La Micochana es Natural. so the whole family can join in on the fun.

Downtown Athens

The rooftop patio of BlueSky.

Any downtown restaurant is sure to be a good choice for fireworks, but when is there a better time for rooftop dining and drinks? The fireworks are expected to be visible throughout Downtown Athens, which means you can enjoy all of the Downtown Athens area! Blue Sky Bar has an upstairs patio which makes a great option for drinks during the show.

UGA North Campus

UGA North Campus and Downtown Athens

To break away from the crowds while still staying close to downtown, you can spread your picnic blanket on the University of Georgia’s North Campus to watch the show. Perfect for families or groups looking for their own space away from the festival zone, North Campus offers a great view and plenty of room to relax.
