The fourth annual Classic City BBQ Festival will heat up August 20 at The Classic Center in Athens, Ga.
The family-friendly festival attracted 1,500 people last year. The event will feature three barbecue contests, local barbecue restaurant vendors, an outdoor music stage, tailgate tradeshow, kids zone and more.

The festival is sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society and is an official Georgia BBQ Championship 2016 Tour Event.
Cooking competitions: Eight teams will compete Saturday, August 20 in the Restaurant Iron Chef Competition. The contestants will not know what they will be cooking until that afternoon, when they receive their protein donated by Buckhead Beef. Contest entry fee is $150. This year’s ticket options include the “Whole Hog” for $25 and “Half Rack” for $10. Both tickets will include six samples of barbecue, the chance to vote for your favorite with the People’s Choice Award, access to food vendors, kids zone, Tailgate Tradeshow and awards ceremony. The “Whole Hog” ticket also includes 10 regional craft beer samples. “Piglet” tickets for children 10 and under will be available at The Classic Center box office for the junior BBQ experience for $5.
