Athens boasts an enviable number of public recreation spaces and facilities, administered by Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services. From parks and playgrounds to lakes and skate parks and greenways, there's plenty of reason to get out and about while in Athens. Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services maintains more than 2,500 acres at more than 41 parks that include five swimming pools, an arts center and museum, historic urban theatre, dance center, two nature preserves, lakeside campgrounds, public boat landings (new boat ramp open at Ben Burton Park), nature center, a zoological park, ten athletic complexes, a skatepark, disc golf course, four dog parks, five community recreation centers, and 10 miles of greenway and trails.
