Athens Farmers Market, Cathead Vodka, Athens Restaurants Collaborate to Support Food Accessibility in Athens

Local restaurants across Athens are crafting limited-edition cocktails using unique and surprising ingredients from local farmers. Cocktails in this series feature Cathead Vodka, a craft distillery whose community values align with the Athens Farmers Market. These four cocktails explore the unique, drinkable flavors of local produce and artisan goods, and we encourage you to indulge in local tastes in a way that strengthens your local food system.

Proceeds from these cocktails go to sustain and support the community work of the Athens Farmers Market, focusing on live music, SNAP Doubling, and FarmRx. We strive to foster a place of access, belonging, and welcoming of all. This includes facilitating programs that make organic, sustainably grown food affordable and accessible for all members of our community. One in six Clarke County residents, or 20,320 residents, are food insecure. Our SNAP Doubling program puts into practice our strongly held belief that good, healthy, wholesome food is a basic human right. To further the accessibility of food in our community, we facilitate FarmRx, our Produce Prescription Program, which prescribes fruits and vegetables to patients with chronic, diet-related illnesses to promote healthy eating and reduce the burden of chronic disease. The FARM Rx Program is a proven, evidence-based model of preventative healthcare with a demonstrated impact, resulting in healthier communities, food systems, and local economies.

Thank you to the Athens restaurants supporting their community food system: Heirloom, The National, Little Kings Shuffle Club, Hi-Lo Lounge and 5 & 10.
