The Star Spangled Classic Firework Celebration
The fun starts on Saturday, June 30th when the skies over historic downtown Athens light up with an extraordinary display of lights and colors. The Star Spangled Classic is a staple of summer life in Athens. The event kicks off around 5 p.m. with live music performed by The Funk Brotherhood, along with food trucks and children's activities on Washington Street and College Avenue. All of this leads up to a fireworks show at 9:30 p.m., which this year will be synchronized to a patriotic playlist that you can download onto your smartphone. Be sure to come check it out!
If fireworks aren't your thing, but you still want to get into the patriotic spirit, be sure to go see the Classic City Band at the State Botanical Garden on July 1st. The band will be performing from 2:00-3:00 p.m. in the air-conditioned conservatory. The event is free admission and out of the summer heat, so arrive early to grab a spot!
